Got back into the swing of things today. I realized why I was having some issues – this is a complex, multi-episode story which will span several “seasons”. I’m seeing at LEAST 20 episodes to this. Likely a lot more, before I finish the story (not terrible, when you recall that the episodes are about 15k words – so about 6 episodes to a normal novel length, which means at least three seasons.).
Since I spent much of today working on outlining, I thought I’d talk about that a bit today.
Whoops. Fell behind on the blog, so I need to do two days of catch-up posts here. No writing done today. Mostly shopping. Was a Christmas shopping and window shopping day. Also bought helicopters.
Little, fit in the palm of your hand remote control quadcopters. Which were then flown around the apartment. Much crashing and laughter ensued.
Back to writing tomorrow.

Spent all morning getting stuff done today. Fixed my EZPass account information, which took a LONG time on the phone, but the person I finally reached was very nice. Got my Comcast stuff dealt with, too. Basically a lot of little things that all needed to be caught up. I left after lunch to get to a meeting, which went fairly well – productive.
Then off to work, and home again after. It was a busier day than it sounds… I let a lot of small things stack up, and managed to handle a fair number of them.
Got in a little bit of writing this evening, before writing this and heading to bed. Not a ton – just 500 words.
But I did get a chance to read a REALLY fascinating article about writing.
Not a lot to report today. It’s my “up at 6am, out till midnight” work day. Which makes for a REALLY long day. Luckily, the place I work has really nice people in it, and I come home tired from these long shifts, but not burned out. I’ve been in nursing jobs were it was just awful… Where I’d come home at the end of the day wishing I could somehow never go back, and where I dreaded waking up for for each day. Crappy stuff.
This job is nothing like that, which I appreciate so, so much.
Anyway, no writing today. But I did notice that Dean Wesley Smith has started something new on HIS “Writing in Public” series (the original, and inspiration for this one). He’s breaking his time out into categories for various types of activities. He’s got Writing, Exercise, TV and Naps, and Day Job Work (which for him is the publishing end of his business).
It’s cool. I thought about tracking it too. I’ve decided to hold off for now. 😉 My day job is a fixed number of hours. And I’m tracking my writing time (sort of) by doing this blog and showing my word count. The only things I might really add would be Writing Business stuff (covers, marketing, publishing, etc.) and maybe “Storyteller Recharging” (movies, TV, and reading fiction).
Would it be interesting to read that sort of breakdown? If there’s enough reader interest, I’ll start it up. Let me know!

Something I thought I probably ought to clear up – technically, I guess this ought to be month four, not month two. I did this before – over a year ago, shortly after Dean Wesley Smith started his “Writing in Public” series. I managed to maintain it for a month, then sort of fell apart shortly into the second month.
I’m rather hoping to do better this time! 🙂
So I’m into day three now. Spent some time in the morning managing some edits on an existing work, and then re-read the entire fourth episode of the King of the Dead serial. I found I was having to go back to it often, so it seemed better to just read it and get it back in my head. I’ve got two more episodes to write to finish this first season.
I got 500 words done in the afternoon, after all that. Then out to some appointments.
Dinner and an episode of Game of Thrones in the evening, followed by… Photoshop!
Getting a slow start this month. Popped in some Arthurian movies to work my way back into the mood a little bit. I find that watching or reading someone else’s fiction can help me a lot with my own, sometimes. And to be fair, more than a little procrastination going on, too. Managed to get in 1000 words in the afternoon, then had to take off on errands.
After that, it was dinner, an episode of the movie, and relaxing with a book for a bit before heading to bed. Again, a slow start, but things will pick up more soon.
