If you haven\’t been over there yet, check out www.deanwesleysmith.com. Dean\’s the inspiration for this blog series, and has been doing the daily writing in public thing for over a year now. He\’s doing something awesome this month. Instead of writing one novel (which he does every month anyway), he plans to write THREE novels of at least 40k words each. An awesome way to step up for a special challenge for NaNoWriMo.
I think that\’s what NaNo ought to be about, really: challenging yourself. For a novice writer, getting anything down on paper is a great challenge. For a more experienced writer, you\’d do better to choose something different. I use NaNoWriMo to push myself every year – to do something with my writing that I haven\’t done before.
Speaking of writing… today (Monday) was a pretty cool writing day. I interspersed bursts of writing with finishing off Season 1 of \”Arrow\” and getting some household chores done. Big chunk of time spent making dinner and hanging out with my wonderful SO in the evening, with one more writing stint right before bedtime. I got maybe 500 words done per burst, with a total of 2500 words for the day.
It\’s not huge, and I slacked for some of the day, but I\’m pretty pleased with the results. Daily writing is something like working out, I find. When you take a bunch of time off, it can take a little while to hit your stride. I\’m on a good path, which is the important thing!
